Rossi: Is There A New Problem?
Is there a new problem with Giuseppe Rossi?
Just last week, Sir Alex caused something of a sensation when he confirmed after months of feverish speculation that Rossi would remain at Old Trafford.
“Giuseppe scored nine goals in 16 matches for Parma and the consensus is that he kept them up,” the manager told a hack from the official website. “The lads going away proved themselves.
“Hopefully now we have a strong enough pool of players. They will develop better with us. They may play more regularly away on loan but training with us and being part of the squad brings them on immeasurably.
The manager’s statement should have killed off any further speculation linking the Italian Under 21 international with a move away from Old Trafford.
Fat chance!
Just days later, Rossi’s agent ensured that Rossi and the rumours would remain umbilically linked in the sports pages for a little while longer.
“Giuseppe would be more than happy to play for Napoli,” Rossi’s ‘representative’ Federico Pastorello informed the News of the World. “He cares more about the future and the atmosphere surrounding the team than about money. In any case, he is worth around 10 million euros.”
The newspaper also recorded the latest comments of Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi. He said: “We have met with the agents of Giuseppe Rossi. We had a recap of the situation but we know that we have to wait for the return of Manchester United from the Asian tour before knowing something more about Giuseppe.”
Hopefully, the quotes are old and the NOTW guilty of careless reporting. As mentioned elsewhere in these pages, it would be laughable if Rossi was sold and Dong Fangzhou allowed to continue under Sir Alex’s tutelage.
