Who Is On Fergie’s 2008 Radar?
No new midfielders will be joining United in the immediate future, Sir Alex has declared.
The manager was forced into announcing his recruitment strategy prematurely, in order to calm tempers in the escalating war of words between his assistant Carlos Queiroz and Sporting Lisbon over the “poaching” of Miguel Veloso.
“We have never been interested in Veloso at any stage,” Ferguson claims. “We’ve not a bit of interest in the lad. He’s not what we need. We’ve got six midfield players, why would we be interested?”
The manager’s intervention takes the heat out of the row between the clubs and extinguishes the gossip concerning United’s interest in Veloso which Queiroz and the player himself did so much to fuel.
If the manager can be believed, it seems fairly clear that United do not have midfielders on their 2008 radar. So where might Sir Alex be looking to reinforce his side?
